In accordance with building code requirements, the Department is developing qualification tests for the Building Code. Under an agreement between the Ministry and Humber College, examinations are conducted by the College. This course will help designers who provide a design service to the public to pass the Designer Legal/Process exam. (21 hours) Building code training is available, but not mandatory, to help practitioners prepare for building code qualification exams. This self-study guide is designed to help construction practitioners prepare for the Designer, General Counsel, Building Manager and Registered Code Agency qualification exams offered by the Ontario Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing. Our 2012 course on General Legal Processes and Powers and Duties is a synthesis/refresher course for experienced practitioners. This Building Code course includes materials from four qualification exams offered by the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing (MMAH): General Law/Process, Powers and Duties of a Senior Building Officer, Law/Process of the Designer, and Powers and Duties of a Registered Code Body. The curriculum reviews important parts of the Building Code Act and Volume 1 of the 2012 Ontario Building Code Compendium, as well as the provisions of Parts 10 and 11 of the Ontario Building Code. The Department prepares curricula for all building code exams and makes them available on its website at www.ontario.ca/document/study-guides-building-code-examinations#. The programs describe the parts of the Building Code Act, 1992 and the Building Code that are addressed in a particular review. Candidates are advised to review them while they prepare for the exams.
